Elliot & Cade's World

Elliot at the Louisville School of Rock

Since we are homeschooling, we are taking any opportunity we have to get Elliot involved in activities outside the house for his curriculum as well as here with us. He does his art in Shelbyville at The Studio 711 and loves Ms Katie and Ms Laura. I highly recommend them to any of you looking for some art classes or to have commission work done. They are both amazing.

Anyway, his latest adventure has been to the Louisville School of Rock, or “Rock-n-Roll School” as Elliot calls it. He has only been a couple of times, but seems to have a great deal of fun. Heidi is the teacher and her son is the other little guy in the video below. They do singing and play various instruments during the lessons. The facility is really cool and they provide training in all kinds of things from private performance coaching to songwriting. Let us know if you want to try out a class, maybe we can meet up!

Homeschool. We can do this!

As most of you know by now, we are not big fans of the public school system. Thus, we have decided to homeschool our kids. Elliot will be starting kindergarten here at home on Tuesday. He has his own little school all set up with a retro desk, an easel, piano, computer and a cabinet full of supplies. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t really understand what’s about to happen here. We plan on having a big First Day of School celebration to mark the event. It will definitely take adjustment on everyone’s part, and I can’t wait to get this challenge underway.

As most of you also know, we are not big fans of religion. I challenge you to find a homeschool support group that isn’t christian based. If you take my challenge and find one, please let me know. With myself being Buddhist and Devin being, well, as Atheist as they come, I’m sure you can imagine why we wouldn’t mesh very well with a christian group. And I would like to have a group that we can hang with and for Elliot to be around some other kids as much as possible.

We’ll keep you posted on how things are progressing and I’m sure be posting some of his best work.
